Goat Hill Park - Oceanside, CA
Goat Hill Park was the first course built in San Diego County in 1952 as a 9-hole par 36 course called Center City Golf Course. In the early 90’s, the course was redesigned by Ludwig Keehn to its current 18-hole short course layout, coined by the locals as “Goat Hill.”
It wasn’t always smooth sailing for Goat Hill Park. In the 80’s, Goat Hill became protected as “Public Land,” meaning it cannot be developed without the consent of a vote of the public. Under this notion, Goat Hill thrived until Lud’s passing in 2004. Since that time, Goat Hill struggled under mismanagement and the combined efforts of developers and politicians to scrap the course for apartments or shopping areas.
In 2014, at an Oceanside Town Hall meeting, the local community and the golfing public made national headlines as they united to stop redevelopment one more time in an effort to keep and restore Goat Hill as “the people’s park of Oceanside.” Since July 1st 2014 Goat Hill Park has seen a dramatic improvement in course conditions and overall improvements all thanks to golf industry veteran John Ashworth and his Linksoul co-founder Geoff Cunningham.
From the rolling hills and ocean views to a 3 hole kids course (the Playground) and newly redesigned driving range, Goat Hill Park is a place for any and all golfers. This dog friendly, dress-code-less, music-bumping track is a staple to its community and lives up to its motto of “World Class / Working Class.”
